{"id":66,"date":"2008-04-27T23:10:10","date_gmt":"2008-04-28T07:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/?p=66"},"modified":"2008-04-27T23:10:10","modified_gmt":"2008-04-28T07:10:10","slug":"over-thinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/over-thinking\/","title":{"rendered":"over-thinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As it was so carefully pointed out to me this weekend, I tend to over-think things\u00a0<strike>sometimes<\/strike><br \/>\n&#8230;<strike>on occasion<\/strike><br \/>\n&#8230;<strike>when there&#8217;s a good reason<\/strike><br \/>\n&#8230;on pretty much any\u00a0day that ends with\u00a0the letter\u00a0&#8216;y&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The great thing about friends that know you exceedingly well is that they&#8217;re there to call you out when you talk out your ass.\u00a0I was\u00a0having dinner with DD on\u00a0Friday night and I\u00a0tried to make a case to her against the apparently popular notion that I over-analyze the personal relationships and situations in my life. I spent at least five-to-ten minutes explaining that I don&#8217;t <em>always<\/em> approach things analytically, and that not <em>every<\/em> corner of my personal life undergoes detailed analysis with mini-flow charts and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/SWOT_analysis\">SWOT<\/a> analyses.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nShe\u00a0bluntly called me a liar and\u00a0was quick to point\u00a0out that I\u00a0was in the process of over-analyzing my over-analysis.\u00a0 I\u00a0acquiesced.\u00a0 I know when I&#8217;m bested.\u00a0 More to the point, I know <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0093779\/\">never\u00a0to go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line<\/a>&#8230; wait, wait&#8230; I&#8217;m pretty sure DD isn&#8217;t Sicilian, but she is Italian so the point still stands.<\/p>\n<p>The conversation continued on to my most recent romantic endeavors and the associated mental ramblings, which led to a discussion on the patterns that she sees in the women I&#8217;ve dated seriously.\u00a0 It was the most honest, direct, and accurate summary assessment\u00a0that anyone has ever given with respect to the characteristics that embody the women who have captivated me.\u00a0 It actually surprised me in that I hadn&#8217;t seen a few of the larger ones for myself.\u00a0 I was simultaneously floored and enlightened.\u00a0 How can I do so much\u00a0OCD-based mental gymnastics\u00a0and still\u00a0miss such big pieces of the picture?<\/p>\n<p>I guess it just takes the right kind of reflection to see what you&#8217;ve missed.\u00a0 Kudos to you, DD.\u00a0 As for the over-thinking, I&#8217;m trying to lay off of it for a while and just do what &#8216;feels right&#8217; instead of trying to figure out what&#8217;s right or wrong.\u00a0 That&#8217;s easier said than done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As it was so carefully pointed out to me this weekend, I tend to over-think things\u00a0sometimes &#8230;on occasion &#8230;when there&#8217;s a good reason &#8230;on pretty much any\u00a0day that ends with\u00a0the letter\u00a0&#8216;y&#8217;.
