{"id":50,"date":"2008-04-14T13:06:31","date_gmt":"2008-04-14T21:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/?p=50"},"modified":"2008-04-14T13:06:31","modified_gmt":"2008-04-14T21:06:31","slug":"touristically-satisfied","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/touristically-satisfied\/","title":{"rendered":"touristically satisfied"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/img_0788.jpg\" title=\"True Love is a Gas Mask\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/img_0746.jpg\" title=\"Overlooking Prague\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/img_0746.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Overlooking Prague\" \/><\/a>The Czech Republic\u00a0is a country my father could love.\u00a0 Not so much the walking around everywhere, because Prague is certainly a walking man&#8217;s city and my dad is not that kind of tourist.\u00a0 I&#8217;m mainly talking about the\u00a0cuisine.\u00a0\u00a0It is absolutely made to satisfy the midwestern pallet; it\u00a0is entirely based off of meat and potatoes and in such a way to require a beer in hand.\u00a0 To use Andy&#8217;s new favorite word, it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dipsomania\">dipsomaniacal<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sure, that may sound boring for some, but the thing about meat and potatoes is that when it&#8217;s done right it&#8217;s absolutely fantastic.\u00a0 And every meal I&#8217;ve had so far has been great, from street vendor sausage to pub-goulash.\u00a0\u00a0Sauerkraut,\u00a0pork, lamb, beef, potatoes, and bread are the basis for pretty much every standard Czech dish.\u00a0\u00a0The only thing I&#8217;ve seen that was outside of the meat &amp; potatoes genre has been the &#8216;turdlo&#8217; which\u00a0is a\u00a0thin dough baked on wide spinning cylinders, covered with a light dusting of sugar.\u00a0 And that, my friends, is delicious.<\/p>\n<p>As for what it&#8217;s like being in Prague:\u00a0it&#8217;s the history that\u00a0just astounds me.\u00a0 Being from America, I feel like I have such a shallow history, at least in terms of how short the history of my country is.\u00a0 Roughly 230+ years of history are nothing compared to the centuries of culture, history, stories, and lifetimes lived in a country like The Czech Republic, formerly Czechoslovakia, formerly Nazi German occupied, formerly part of Austria-Hungary, formerly&#8230;\u00a0 Realizing that the U.S.of A. has only had 2 major skirmishes on\u00a0our soil, and that scant few of our buildings are hardly over two centuries old, makes us look like wee babes in the world of geo-politicalness.\u00a0 So, wondering around castles that are older than my country kinda helps me put it all into perspective.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWe have just seen the most beautiful things.\u00a0 It&#8217;s really hard to take it all in when every building looks like a work of art compared to what I walk past every day in the states.\u00a0 Between the castles, the bridges, the churches, and the museums I&#8217;ve had more input than I can really deal with in two days.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m love&#8217;n it.
