One day I&#8217;ll learn to blog\u2026<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\">My goals when boxing up the bike were straightforward:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Protect the box when flying on the plane.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to fit most of the gear into the same box as the bike to save on checked luggage.<\/li>\n<li>Reuse the same box to fly the box home at the end of the trip.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Hard cases would make it difficult to accomplish goal 2, since they&#8217;re so heavy that it is easy to be over the airline&#8217;s 100lb max. Also, it would be expensive to ship an empty hard case from San Diego to Austin (goal 3). So, a cardboard box would have to do.<\/p>\n<p>ShipBikes.com makes a nice box called the &#8220;eBike Shipper&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shipbikes.com\/buy.html\">http:\/\/www.shipbikes.com\/buy.html<\/a>) which runs about $55 shipped.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s nice is that it comes broken down into a small box. This enabled me to assemble the box that is inside the box, and then ship the box that the box was shipped in inside the now assembled box. Got that? That means I can rebox the box in San Diego to ship for cheap to Austin.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/010213_2031_Day1TheBox2.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Half assembled box.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/010213_2031_Day1TheBox3.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Packed box.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/010213_2031_Day1TheBox4.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>All boxed up and ready to go!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The box the box came in.
