{"id":103,"date":"2008-05-21T17:02:15","date_gmt":"2008-05-22T00:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/?p=103"},"modified":"2008-05-21T17:02:15","modified_gmt":"2008-05-22T00:02:15","slug":"risk-adverse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmwoley.com\/blog\/risk-adverse\/","title":{"rendered":"risk adverse?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">Tomorrow my entire org is taking the day off of work to go white water rafting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueskyoutfitters.com\/wenatchee-waterlevels.php\" target=\"_blank\">water level<\/a>\u00a0tells me that it will be an\u00a0absolute blast, and I&#8217;m really excited to go.\u00a0 But given\u00a0most recent post-surgery pangs-of-mortality I&#8217;m doubting the wisdom of this\u00a0endeavor.\u00a0 I&#8217;m normally moderately risk adverse; fear whilest\u00a0rock climbing, jumping out of airplanes, pushing my body&#8217;s limits power lifting, etc. have never kept me from doing risky things at least once, if not several times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt\"><!--more--><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">But in this case the risk is different somehow. I think that&#8217;s because there\u00a0is no way to <em>control the risk<\/em> while still taking it.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know the parameters of the risk and I don&#8217;t know how much is too much, or how to tell when I&#8217;m even reaching that point of too much until after that point is already reached.\u00a0 So, I find myself thinking in pros\/cons&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\"><strong>Pros :<\/strong> a day off of work, <em>white water rafting<\/em>, fun in the sun enjoying a 70 degree day&#8230; etc.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\"><strong>Cons:<\/strong> could re-injure myself, or at least set myself back.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\"><strong>Other options:<\/strong> WF(H|C) and really kick some work butt\u2026 but do so from my favorite local coffee house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">The thing is, about 90% of the time I feel fine\u2026 and it is almost 2 weeks since I\u2019ve been cut on.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s long enough to heal if you\u2019re invincible, right???\u00a0 If only.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow my entire org is taking the day off of work to go white water rafting.
