Windows 7 Beta available Friday 1/9

From WindowsTeamBlog.com:

On January 9th, the Windows 7 Beta will be available for Windows enthusiasts to download via the Windows 7 page on Windows.com. The Windows 7 Beta is going to be available download-only (we’re not sending out physical media) and available for a limited time to the first 2.5 million people who download the beta.

I’m super excited about this.  Like, compeltely ecstatic.  I’ve been talking up Win7 now for months to my friends and now we really get to show it off and have a ton of people try it.  Yes, I’m pimping out my work because I’m damn proud of it!

Most important, “Give Feedback”!  Everyone who uses Windows 7 will have the opportunity to give Microsoft feedback on pretty much everything. It’s the best way you can help Microsoft understand your experience with Windows 7. And, yes, we’re listening. :)  There’s an easy lil button for you to click that sends us your comments and thoughts and musings.  So, if you find bugs, report them!

For more information, see the Windows 7 page here (http://microsoft.com/windows7).  If you want to get it as soon as it comes out, there’s an RSS feed that will let you know as soon as the public Beta becomes available (feed here: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/MainFeed.aspx).

  1. Curious if i did install it would I have any program compatibility issues? Can i go back to VISTA later if it was pre-installed on my laptop? text me and let me know!

    1. I haven't had any program compatibility problems, in fact, there are tools (Application Compatibility Troubleshooter) that help you resolve those issues, should you find one.

You know, I don't know what the uninstallation story is… I believe you can, but I need to check and find out.

        1. I guess that shouldn't be that big of a surprise. It is no good way for 2.5 million people to instantly "get in line".The XKCD is hilarious, Joe. I am going to put that one on my door at work with a label "beware the bittorrent"

  2. Cool! I always thought it was a little silly they charged for betas in the past. Here's hoping I can sneak in with the first 2.5 million other guinea pigs. So far everything I've heard about 7 sounds promising. Not that it'll make me drop OS X, but I wouldn't mind running 64-bit Windows that has decent drive support and isn't Vista.

    1. I've been very, veryhappy with it. I've been running it as my daily-driver for months now at work, and on a personal laptop (netbook) for about a month now. It's zippy. It's stable.

  3. I suppose that's not that big of a surprise: there's no good way for 2.5 million people to instantly "get in line". Good luck!

  4. Hee hee. Kind of funny that you post this and have xkcd linked as well. Eyes flash red on ctrl alt delete huh? ;)
